Staying with a pre-planned route

So far, the best way to simulate what my old 2730 would do with a pre-planned route (done in - whimper - Basecamp) has been to set the route activity profile to "Driving" and set the 396 to "Faster Time" and turn "Adventurous Routing" OFF with all sliders in it set to m...

Re: Sun shade/visor

Here are a few shots of the one I made for mine. I first made it to replace the one on my 2730 that was just flat worn out after ~ 12 years. Sorry for the poor cell phone photos - it usually does pretty well.

Re: Sun shade/visor

I made one from scrap leather bought at a Menonite leather shop for $1. After cutting it out, I sewed loop half of Velcro the the bottom, and attached sticky-back hook part to the unit top and sides. I may need to revisit the hook attachment as the stivky was reused and not holding well. Considering...

Re: Help

Yep, my money is on cable. Garmin requires excellent DATA cables, not just charging cables. Look for ones with blobs on the ends (inductors to reduce noise spikes).

Re: Updated Info other then Maps

Also, you really need to plan a route and ride it over known roads to make sure you are getting it right.

Ha! I was on board '80-'84. Refueling overhaul, sea trials, ORSE, weps, the works.
75-79 ten patrols, two extended refits in Holy Loch.

Re: Crash while routing

I've planned a multi-day route from Knoxville, TN to Globe, AZ via US-70 (NOT I-70). I used BaseCamp and hated the experience. I'm planning to build the same in MapSource. My question to any that may have tried this - can I just send the route to my 396 with MapSource? I'll be using the latest maps ...

Re: What do you do to pay the bills?

After eight years on Navy nuclear subs spent the next 39 working on partivle accelerators - the last 17 of that teaching engineers and operators. Now retired and working on old motorcycles plus beginning to tour on our '06 GoldWing with the wife. Plus spending far too many hours on internet forums.

Re: Zumo 595 thoughts after 1500km (1000 mile tour)

A StreetPilot 2730 with 4 GB memory, faster processor better screen brightness and better GPS receiver. Able to hold full NorthAmerica maps and some audio. I could do without the WIFI and Bluetooth if the unit would just use the routes I gave it without playing with them. That would be so nice!
