Connecting the Zumo to a Mac is still a royal pain

..if it even works at all! I just got back from a 2700+ mile trip (I went around all of the Great Lakes - what a fun ride!) where the Zumo, shockingly, never once rebooted or froze up. I'm happy for that. Now that I'm sitting at my desk at home, I want to download the tracks so I can have a little m...

Re: XT2 turns off and restarts

I feel your pain. I've got an original Zumo XT (purchased shortly after they were announced) which I use in "just show me where I am" mode most of the time on long rides. It will occasionally just freeze up and the only fix is to hold the power button until it reboots. I got it swapped out...

Re: Few questions please

The past few years when I've taken long trips (5-7 days), I've had saved logs of the full ride from start to finish. Pulling the tracks into basecamp, it was a relatively simple process to combine the multiple tracks from each day into a single track per day. It's kind of fun to display them all on ...

Re: I just learned that the XT has a Garmin Powerswitch app

Maybe I'm a weirdo, but when I'm on a road trip in my car, I use the Zumo there as well, as it's a really nice-looking screen. A person might have gizmos and gadgets they want to control in there.... but I can't imagine wanting to bother!

Re: Radar Weather Images while moving

The XT had moving radar (while in motion) when I first got it (April 2020). The feature was removed with a later update.

Re: WiFi update downloads never work if Bluetooth is enabled

Interesting thought about interference. I have dual-band WiFi at home (2.4 and 5 GHz) but I'd wager the Zumo only uses 2.4GHz band, which is the prime range for interference from Bluetooth.

WiFi update downloads never work if Bluetooth is enabled

Every time I fire up the XT to check for updates, the same thing always happens: I get the "Updating device. Do not unplug" message, and NOTHING HAPPENS. After 4-5 minutes (trying to be patient), I then press and hold the power button to reboot it - and after going into the wireless/networ...

Re: My 1st experience with XT in car

I run full brightness in the car most of the time, and I plug into whatever USB port is available in the rental-du-jour. I can't imagine that it really pulls 2 amps when running, even if full bright. I'd experiment with another cable, perhaps. I use a 3rd-party USB cable which is designed to NOT thr...

Re: XT occasionally switches off

What did you use to splice into the connection? I'd say that soldering is ideal, next in line is something like a Posi-Tap. If you used one of those god-awful splicing gizmos that you kind of squeeze together with a pliers and has that little plastic cap that sort-of holds it shut, that could be a p...
