Re: XT coming next week

Somewhere midway through this discussion @danham posted about the Silicone Sling by Tackform as a method of securing the XT in place. Well, I received mine this morning and had one installed within 5 minutes. I am really impressed. I think he exaggerated when it said "The extra 2 seconds requi...

Re: XT coming next week

sorry but I do have another idiot question for you, why is the sling necessary? I mean i've read comments from others before that said the XT is held securely in the cradle, is the sling band an extra level of security? any reports of the XT falling out of the cradle without the sling or other mean...

Re: XT coming next week

The sling is just an oddly shaped rubber band. You clip the XT into the cradle and then stretch the corners of the sling over the corners of the XT. To remove the XT you slip the corners of the sling off the corners of the XT and then release the XT from the cradle. The sling remains in place betwe...

Re: XT coming next week

Frank & Tom, I always stress that wiring to the battery is my personal preference, so no disrespect for those who prefer switched power. I have two (EDIT: 3) reasons for my preference: 1. there is little or no danger of running down a healthy battery by wiring direct to the battery. 2. too many ...

Re: XT coming next week

wait a minute, my 12v bike battery is rated 12Ah so with a 150uA XT mount amp drain (= 0.15 mA drain), that's a 12v bike battery life of 9.132 years https://www.digikey.ca/en/resources/conversion-calculators/conversion-calculator-battery-life that 150uA parasitic XT mount drain on a 12Ah bike batte...

Re: XT coming next week

For peace of mind, I use a rubber phone mount thingy. I have never seen anything like those Tackform Slings. I'm not normally an impulse buyer but I just ordered them. Thanks @danham . I use one on my mountain bike to make sure my iPhone stays with me for the whole ride and one on my Kawasaki for t...

Re: XT coming next week

a quick question, will this XT need a tether tie cord of some kind to the bike, in case of accidental pressing the unit release lever on the mount? in other words, is there a risk of the unit falling off the mount when riding? For peace of mind, I use a rubber phone mount thingy. https://www.tackfo...

Re: XT coming next week

Looking at this again today, I am still befuddled that a 2A USB charger (2A x 5V= 10watts) would not provide enough power to boot the dead XT, but on the 13.6V power supply, the XT started just fine while drawing only 0.42A, or 5.7 watts of power. Just an amateur guess, but I wonder if some of the ...

Re: Updating maps coruppt routes?

You are saying that updating the maps on the pc Would not change or corrupt the planned routes? And than the transfer will be successful? Does anyone has experience with this action? Well I guess you are right that it does make sense to downgrade the maps. And that thought leaves me no choice but t...
