Re: Basecamp and via points/shaping points

In Basecamp, the only way to tell whether a point is a shaping point or a via point is in that dialog box that lkraus has shown. Via points are in black lettering. The points alert on arrival. Shaping points are in a lighter, grey lettering, These say (won't alert..) The symbol used does not mean an...

Re: Thoughts on "closest entry point"

Yes, I picked up on your - 'it heads to the nearest point of any sort' comment. I didn't say anything though. Yes I think that must be correct. It doesn't have an equation for the line on which it can perform any maths. It just has the points and the very easy to calculate distance between the point...

Re: Hello from Denmark

Welcome Harry.

You don't have to use Basecamp - but it is the best tool for the job in my opinion.

Install Basecamp
Install Garmin Express
Use express to install the same maps on the computer as the ones on your XT

Dont have Express running at the same time as Basecamp.

Ask if you need help.

Re: Thoughts on "closest entry point"

I am certainly not going to shoot holes in your theories ! On the contrary I think that you are spot on in your deductions. Thank you for those observations - it is good for me to revisit them - I haven't looked at it for a couple of years. This was the first feature that I looked into when I got my...

Re: How to display custom POIs on the map

I can only comment on the XT - but I doubt that they have changed how this works for the XT2. First of all - you have your POI file. You have to use Garmin's POI loader in order for it to appear in the Zumo. It ends up with the camera proximity files in Internal Storage / POI folder and has the name...

Re: XT Routes & Trips

Sorry for being a bit slow on reading through this. OK - I now understand the problem and think I have a solution without using 3rd party stuff. Just Basecamp. My Basecamp trick from my previous post works - but I hadn't realised that there were so many sections all in the wrong order and badly name...

Re: XT Routes & Trips

I haven't read the thread through - sorry. Just noticed the commentin the above post. You can join multiple routes together in Basecamp In Basecamp Select the routes in the order that you wish to link them- do this by clciking the first and then holding down the conrol key and clicking each of the n...

Re: 396 recognises UK destination, then sends me to France!

Factory reset will reset those files. I am out of ideas if it is still doing the same thing. Except - what are the language settings ? Clearly an english language, but USA ? I thought that there was a locale setting - but .... Home ? That should be cleared by the rest. Let me recap. You search for a...
