Surely it must only be an issue with your unit otherwise there would be uproar in other places about it not working

If you are in the UK then I would take it back to where you bought it from for an exchange unit.

Your contract is with them and they have to exchange or refund if its faulty

Great work by everyone, has anyone thought to see what happens if you have a saved route on the XT, change it from say "faster" to "shortest", then back again to fastest to see if it changes the attributes that makes the XT navigate sensibly? Tried that and it was still a no go :(
