I'm one of those stuck in the past and much prefer Mapsource.. the last update was 6.16.3.

I never.. EVER use shorter option, especially in mainland Europe, some of the 'routes' have been ridiculous, through tiny village roads and as you found through car parks and even forest trails..

I use Mapsource with all my Garmin units, I have no issues at all with names etc.. can't believe what a faff it is using Basecamp.
I give each route a name and number then send to either unit name or SD card.

@Les MapInstall won't help here as it can only install maps already installed on your computer for BaseCamp and/or MapSource to use. Yes.. that's how I've done it, download maps to computer first, then use Mapinstall, had to do this when the latest update for my Zumo 660 wouldn't 'fit' in the unit,...

When putting 'extra' maps on any of my Garmin units, usually from Open Street Maps, I use Mapinstall..

Michelin Maps for me.. look for the roads with a green border denoting scenic routes... create a route on Mapsource send to unit

I once rode from Calais to Southern Spain linking up as many of these roads as possible, it made for a really good journey over a week or so.

I had a similar issue with my Zumo 660 (not recognizing SD card) I used 'Mapinstall' and it worked a treat.

I usually number my trips to put them in order.

To stop a route being recalculated in Basecamp.. select 'Edit' from the tool bar, then 'options', then 'Device Transfer'. Under 'Transfering Routes' tick the box that says.. 'Always match route to the map on my device when transfering'. I'm prepared to be proved wrong - but I disagree. Ticking that...
