Re: Unable to download Garmin Express

Find someone with a PC to borrow for the updates. Garmin and Apple don't seem to get along well yet from all I've read.

Re: New member from Arizona

I ride an '06 'wing, also. For many years, I used a StreetPilot 2730 and it never let me down. Started getting slower to lock satelites and dimmer over the past couple years, so I bought a 396lm-s for it. Have since removed the 396 and reinstalled the 2730, though. Going to take a LOT more work with...

Re: 396 taking crazy routes on tiny backroads

Well nothing seemed to work , perhaps it’s only a problem with garmins mapping here in the west country , but I doubt it . I again contacted garmin who asked me to report all the rout problems , I asked them if were going to employ me full because it was that bad , garmin suggested I return it to t...

Re: Zumo 595 thoughts after 1500km (1000 mile tour)

I finished 13 days and 4200 miles on the 20th. Used a 396. Day after we returned, I removed the 396 and reinstalled my old, faint-screen 2730. 396 not only fought me about the route, it rebooted twice (once in heavy, high-speed navigation) and forgot half of the trip's track log. It will either go o...

Only if their lawyers tell them to. As a matter of product support or customer relations, doubtful.

Re: Waypoints, or Shaping points?

And I learned that if you are starting from your initial waypoint, you must tell a 396 that it is the first place to go, not the final waypoint. Otherwise, the 396 will recalculate the entire route to the final waypoint using whatever whim it comes up with, even ignoring your avoidances.

Re: Staying with a pre-planned route

Possibly there is only one mention, does that matter? Not sure I follow exactly what is going wrong with your route from your description. I think you're expecting one way whereas your Zumo is programmed another. I'll try to clarify what I posted. Whichever viapoint or waypoint you select having do...

Re: Staying with a pre-planned route

Your device will ignore shaping points if you're off route and do a Where to then select a waypoint. It will calculate it's own route to that waypoint then follow the route from there. That's how it's designed to work and how I'd want it to work. If you want to be able to select more points to join...

Re: 396 taking crazy routes on tiny backroads

In my recent 4200 mile trip experience, only setting the 396 as a standard car device - and setting Basecamp to route the same way, and including a huge number of shaping points, and telling the 396 that the starting point is the first waypoint to route to will make it a half-way reliable GPS for pr...

Re: Staying with a pre-planned route

Sounds like I better keep my old 2820 and 550 alive, even if it means life support...... Buy some used ones and screen repair kits. The map support will be lacking, but then the 396 showed us going through fields and forests when on a three-year-old road. I might look at one of the newer China unit...
