Re: How can I delete all route information?
Delete all .gpx files in your GPX folder, including any on a SD card. Now do the reset.

Re: FF or skip for GPS simulation?
On some devices there's a setting in the developers menu, no idea about whether that is included in the XT though.
If you simply want screenshots though select those points as the starting point for the route.

Re: Has garmin ever fixed a reported issue?
True although I reported it via Garmin. I've only needed to report a couple of device issues to Garmin plus quite a few BaseCamp issues when I had a direct line into the developing team, long ago disbanded. All were resolved.

As for versions, if you loaded it to your laptop from Garmin then it'll be the latest, if you want both to be the ...

Re: question of which version I am using
Where did you load BaseCamp from? If the Garmin website it will be the latest version. What maps can't you unlock and how did you install them?

Re: Wrong home location
Just to help you understand this. current.gpx is simply a one way copy of your data held in inaccessible memory on the device. You can delete it and your device will recreate it when it boots. Before it does so though it looks for any other .gpx files, merges them with what's in the inaccessible mem...

Re: Wrong home location
There will be a .gpx file somewhere on your device, if you're reimporting data after a master reset. Look for a .gpx file where the date/time matches when you believe you created that, or alternatively delete all the .gpx files on your device. After that once everything is as you want it make a copy...
