It won't alter the stuff you have put on it like your own waypoints etc. It will update the maps and unit software if available. So when your unit arrives you should plug it in and get the latest updates installed.
I don't know how any GPS is going to tell you what the helmet law is.

Re: Crash while routing
Okay, I'll be the first....I'm recreating the routes from a trip I took last year. Spokane WA to Lancaster PA. I know I could have saved them off of the 550 each day but that wasn't at all convenient. I know this an old post but no-one mentioned this............... and for anyone else reading this ...

Re: Mapsource & Zumo595?
I don't have your model but it should be something like this: 1. Start device by itself and go to Volume Screen. 2. Press the upper right hand corner of screen for 10 seconds. 3. The Developers Screen will pop up (may see Configuration and Settings, if so select it) 4. Scroll down to MTP SETTINGS 5 ...

Re: Zumo 595 thoughts after 1500km (1000 mile tour)
A StreetPilot 2730 with 4 GB memory, faster processor better screen brightness and better GPS receiver. Able to hold full NorthAmerica maps and some audio. I could do without the WIFI and Bluetooth if the unit would just use the routes I gave it without playing with them. That would be so nice! The ...

Re: Mapsource & Zumo595?
Thanks for that. I'll give it ago next time I plot a route.
As for Mapsource, I got used to it years ago and it does everything I want/need very simply. Basecamp is just too complicated with more features (that I don't need) than the space shuttle.

Mapsource & Zumo595?
Have any Mapsource experts out there managed to get it to recognise a Zumo595 when you plug it in? Not a huge problem but as it is you have to save the Mapsource doc as a .gpx and then drag & drop it into the 595 memory. It would be nice to be able to send the route straight from Mapsource as you ...

Re: Zumo 595 thoughts after 1500km (1000 mile tour)
Perhaps Garmin will produce a true GPS made for Bikers, designed for what bikers need not what a designer thinks they need. (Although I still think it is better than the competition! ;) ) They did that once. It was called the Zumo550. It's a pity they felt the need to produce an overcomplicated one ...

Or if that fails, look into using Open Street Mapping (OSM). https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=5/54.910/-3.432 which is free.

Re: new unit
Hey there guys, lurker for a bit just joined up to ask some questions. I have a new Zumo 595, using BaseCamp. I had been using a 60CSX with MapSource. Just as an extra in case you didn't realise. You can still use Mapsource with the 595. All you have to do is save any routes as a .gpx instead of a ...
