Hi, thanks for replying, and trying to help, but I dont understand.
I have connected the black and red wires directly to the battery terminals (obviously black to positive, red to negative), with the zumo in place, I am getting 12.5V from the ends of the black/red wires.

If it works thru the charger, you have a power delivery problem in the cradle.
Many people complained about the pins not touching the cradle connectors good enough. I gave up and use a usb cable and 3.0 socket.
I tried using the usb socket on holiday in Spain/Portugal, but had lots of other ...

I'm not trying yo insult your inteligence here but you have got the connections the right way round haven't you?
Its been known for people to mix them up and not realise
Red to red, black to black. I was going to try reversing them, just to see, but I think I should ask Garmin Tech support ...

The battery is putting out 12.8V, so I dont think its the problem.
