My 590 would not connect, tried various cables & computers. Was under warranty & was replaced with a new 595. 595 worked perfectly for a year or so, now takes about 10 minutes to connect. Different cables or computer makes no difference. Can't be a physical cable issue as eventually it does ...

Can I suggest that a PLB is a better option.
Cheaper capital purchase, no subscriptin costs, direct access to those that need come save you.
Only downside, no tracking or text messages (if I am that remote that my phone does not work, then the PLB is my backup plan).

I purchased a universal one from eBay. Absolute waste of time, depending on the sun direction only partially shades the screen.
