XT2: Section 4 - FoolProof Routing

4.03 - Import Routes etc from GPX Files - Without Trip Manager
Making your Routes, Tracks & Waypoints appear in the menus.
Once the data has been placed in gpx files on the XT2's Internal Storage or SD Card, it has to be imported before you can use it.
This is covered in some detail in the previous section on Collections. Link Here

It is particularly important to note that the behaviour of gpx files placed on the SD card is very different from if it is placed in Internal Storage. I very much prefer to use the SD card because:
  • Tracks are not deleted from the gpx files.
  • Waypoints are not imported automatically.
  • The gpx files cannot be altered by the XT2 if they are on the SD card.
  • If you delete routes, tracks or waypoints from the XT2 screen, they are always available to import again.
The Zumo XT2 provides very much improved handling of gpx files. You get to choose which gpx files you want to import - as shown in the screen capture image - and then you get to choose which routes and which waypoints you want to import. (Import one track, all are imported !).

Notice the layout of the screen capture image If you import the same route twice, then the XT2 will add a number to the end of the duplicate route name. Ditto with Tracks. This means that if your route or track name is too long, you will not be able to see that digit - it will drop off the edge of the screen. This may be of particular relevance if you like to use your XT2 in portrait mode. I count 21 characters max on my portrait view screen, 36 in landscape mode.

The limit for your fiflename is greater because the letters are smaller - but it includes the full path as well. Be aware of this when naming your files and folders.

You get to specify which collections to use when you import. If you don't specify, all of your routes, tracks and waypoints can be found in 'Unorganised'. The collections section has a full set of tools for re-organising your data. See Section 3.
File Import Screen Showing Pathnames

The image shows how the XT2 distinguishes between files stored in Internal Storage and those stored on the Memory Card.

Also note the difference in using a different location with a shorter pathname. The XT2 seems to find any gpx files, anywhere.
