The Green Menu Bar - All Icons Shown

The menu bar is context sensitive - you will see only the icons that are relevant at any one time. You will never see all of the icons shown above at the same time.
The caption on the left has been missed off this image.

A brief description of each icon is given on the left.

Import Data from GPX files
Import
Click the 3-dot button on the green menu bar.  The screen in Pic 1 appears.  Click on 'Import'.

Import from Selected Files
Pic 2 shows an example of what appears next.  Every GPX file that contains route, track or waypoint data will be presented in two different lists: Internal Storage and Memory Card.

The entries in the list show the complete path of each file - slightly shortened in the portrait view of the XT2 screen.

It is important to try to make the filename identifiable in the first few characters.

This is much more information and flexibility than Garmin has ever provided before in any of its Zumos. The Zumo would just search through all GPX files, and import everything that it found. This is a big step forward.

Internal Storage or SD Card ??
I use the SD card - for reasons that will become obvious. My examples here show the behaviour when using gpx files from Internal Storage.

It is your choice, I'm just passing on information - with a few very strong hints !

Don't Import Anything Yet
If you are following this as a set of instructions, then hang on for a minute. You haven't yet created any collections.
Without collections, the XT2 will put anything that you import into an 'Unorganised' collection. You can assign them to other collections from there. But creating a set of collections first makes life much easier.
